Year 6

Perseverance and Trust

In Year 6, we aim to provide a safe, secure and successful environment with high expectations so that all children can reach their full potential. In our Year Group, a very important focus is helping our children to prepare for secondary school by taking greater responsibility and independence in their learning. We focus on our school values; respect, caring, honesty, unity, perseverance and appreciation. In Year 6 we demonstrate ‘Excellence’. We have chosen ‘excellence’ as our motto and we focus on doing our best in everything that we do.

Our curriculum ensures that we are preparing children thoroughly to meet the national expected standard at the end of Key Stage 2 and achieve their very best in their National Curriculum Assessments. Our topics this year include Explorers, The Empress of India (focusing on Queen Victoria and the British Empire), Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, Mexico (Physical) Mexico (Human) and The Golden Age of Baghdad – Early Islamic Civilisation.

Year 6 Homework:

  • Daily reading 20-30 minutes
  • Weekly reading comprehension task
  • Weekly grammar tasks
  • Weekly spelling test practice
  • Weekly maths task and times tables practice

If you have any concerns you can contact your child’s class teacher directly through Class DoJo, which will also allow you to monitor and track your child’s behaviour throughout their school day. Please check Class DoJo regularly for year group updates.
