Year 3

Kindness and Patience

Welcome to Year 3. This is the start of Key Stage 2 which often seems a big step up for your children but please rest assured that we will support your children in making the transition as smooth as possible.

We are starting the year by focusing on well-being, making sure the children feel safe and secure, after a disruptive two years. We will help them to integrate back into school life and encourage the children to be kind, respectful and value each other.

We aim to make the curriculum relevant to each individual child so they can celebrate their cultural identity and learn from and about each other at the same time. By doing this, we can work stronger as a community and celebrate our successes together.

During this year your child will be taught by class teachers:

  • Miss Choi
  • Miss Kauser
  • Mrs Boora

Supported by teaching assistants:

  • Ms Edinborough
  • Mrs Saraj
  • Mrs Yasmeen

PE lessons will take place on Wednesday afternoons unless they are going swimming on a Monday. Children will need to come to school in their PE kit. Please provide a water bottle. Homework, including weekly spellings will be sent out via Class Dojo or a paper copy. There will be a spelling test every Thursday.

All children are expected to read at home and are provided with a reading book. Children’s own reading is accelerated by a parent/carer reading to them every day. Please use Bug Club and Letterjoin regularly to develop reading and writing skills. You can support your child in maths by helping them learn their times tables and encouraging correct use of language for shapes, time, money and measures.

Children are invited to carry out their own research, or respond creatively with writing of stories, poems, producing drawings, paintings, models or indeed anything about their learning which has captured their interest. We really enjoy it when children share the learning they have undertaken outside of school. Remember, you can continue to share your child’s learning by posting photos on Class Dojo.

If you have any concerns or pastoral issues you would like to share, please phone the school office, who will then be able to pass on your message to a member of the Year 3 team. Alternatively, you can send a message using Class Dojo.
