Event: Sporting Success

February 2017

The New Year has brought more success in sport at Blakesley!

Both the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 Tennis Team won the School Games local area tennis competitions, held at Billesley Indoor Tennis Centre in January. Congratulations, and best of luck in the finals next month.

This half-term has also seen the new addition of a Girls’ Football Team, led by our own experienced football player, Ms Jones. The girls have been enjoying learning new skills and developing their teamwork.

Both the Girls’ and Boys’ Football Teams, and the Girls’ Hockey Team, have been training for friendly matches against Regents Park Primary. Good luck!

The highlight of the half-term has definitely been the success of the Y3/4 Athletics Team. On Wednesday 1st February, Mr Summers and Ms O’Driscoll took 18 pupils to compete in the local schools’ athletics competition. Events included the long jump, hurdles and relay races - among many more. Having won the Year 5/6 competition earlier in the year, Mr Summers had high hopes for the team as many of the younger pupils had also participated in this competition. The team kept our winning streak going, scoring a massive 308 points to place 1st out of 14 other schools, including Marlborough (2nd) and Audley (3rd). It is difficult to pick out a special mention from the team as all pupils played their part in the win, but Kelsey’s (3W) and Jaden’s (3Z) speed in the relay races made a big difference to the result – as did Adil (4W) throwing the javelin further than the 20m scoring mat! Also, well done to Sahara (4R) for earning an Honesty badge during the competition.

Finally, we are really proud of two children in KS1, who competed in this KS2 competition with great confidence, skill and maturity: Amira (1G) and Moise (2A). Well done to all the team, and to everyone for their support. Next up is the summer athletics – wish us luck!
