New Reception Places
Children in Birmingham can start school (reception) in the September after their fourth birthday. For example, If your child was born between 1 September 2021 and 31 August 2022, they will be able to start school in September 2026.
To apply for a September 2026 Reception place at Blakesley Hall Primary School, you will need to apply through the Birmingham City Council Admissions Department and fill in an online form. Applications open on 1st October 2025 and the very latest date to complete it is 15 January 2026.
Parents who applied on time will be notified via email (if provided) by 16 April 2026. A formal letter will also be posted to you on that date.
You do not need to let us know if you plan to accept this offer.
If you want to refuse this offer, you must tell Birmingham Admissions before Thursday 30 April 2026.
In-Year Admissions
At Blakesley Hall, we understand that children move schools during the school year for a variety of reasons. Should you wish to apply for an in-year place at our school, please complete the LA registration form at the following link:
If we can offer you an in-year place, you will then be asked to provide the following:
- Your child's original Birth Certificate
- Proof of address, this could be a Council Tax or Utility bill (received in the last 3 months). A copy of this will be taken and stored in your child�s records.

New Reception and In-Year Places
Blakesley Hall Primary School the following criteria to offer places to children:
- Looked After Children.
- Siblings.
- The distance travelled to reach the school, with children living in the area being prioritised.
Appeals Process
We understand it can be disappointing for parents/carers, who are not offered the school of their choice. Birmingham City Council Admissions and Appeals manage the Appeals process if your child does not get a place at Blakesley Hall Primary School. Reception Appeals
If you want to appeal against the decision, the closing date for submitting your written appeal to Birmingham Admissions is Friday 15 May 2026.
If you submit an appeal after this date, it will be classed as a late appeal and will be heard after the on-time appeals, and it may not be heard before the beginning of September 2026.
You will be able to access the appeal form online from 4.00 pm on 16 April 2026.
