Year 6

Perseverance and Trust

Welcome to Year 6.

In Year 6, we aim to provide a safe, secure and successful environment with high expectations so that all children can reach their full potential. In our Year Group, a very important focus is helping our children to prepare for secondary school by taking greater responsibility and independence in their learning. We also have many other opportunities to be active citizens and role models, such as becoming a House Captain, Prefect or Play Leader.

Our curriculum ensures that we are preparing children thoroughly to meet the national expected standard at the end of Key Stage 2 and achieve their very best in their National Curriculum Assessments. Meanwhile, our involvement in the Every Child Needs a Mentor programme provides each child in Year 6 with a mentor who supports them in developing their social skills and readiness for secondary school.

Our topics this year include the Second World War, Ancient Greece and Modern Greece. This term, we will be visiting the National Memorial Arboretum to learn more about WW2 and its impact on Britain. We will also be taking on an exciting Design and Technology challenge with a WW2 theme.

During this year your child will be taught by class teachers:

  • Mrs Shahnawaz
  • Mrs Asad Khan
  • Mrs Pauley

Supported by teaching assistants:

  • Mrs Redstone
  • Mrs Delemere
  • Miss Walker

We believe that daily reading at home, with an adult, is vital to children’s progress and encourage you to read regularly with your child. We also encourage children to independently research topics related to their learning in school, or to their other interests, and share this with their peers.
