Year 6

Perseverance and Trust

Welcome to Year 6!

In Year 6, we aim to provide a safe, secure and successful environment with high expectations so that all children can reach their full potential. In our Year Group, a very important focus is helping our children to prepare for secondary school by taking greater responsibility and independence in their learning. We offer opportunities to be active citizens, such as becoming a House Captain, Prefect or Play Leader.

Our curriculum ensures that we are preparing children thoroughly to meet the national expected standard at the end of Key Stage 2 and achieve their very best in their National Curriculum Assessments.

Our topics this year include the First World War, Ancient Greece. This term, we will be visiting the National Memorial Arboretum to learn more about WW1 and its impact on Britain. We will also be producing WW1 remembrance artwork and taking on an exciting Design and Technology challenge!

During this year your child will be taught by class teachers:

  • Mrs Shahnawaz
  • Mrs McPherson
  • Mrs Pauley

Supported by teaching assistants:

  • Mrs Redstone
  • Mrs Begum
  • Miss Walker

We believe that daily reading at home with an adult is vital to children’s progress and encourage you to read regularly with your child. We also encourage children to independently research topics related to their learning in school, or to their other interests, and share this with their peers.
